But I mean it. This is my secret to being happy.
Here's a story for all of you. Gather round.
When I was in high school, I had no idea what I wanted to be. I don't know about you, but from ninth grade to graduation, everyone wanted to know, "What are you going to be when you grow up?" I told people a whole assortment of things, but none of them were what I really wanted to do because I hadn't the slightest inkling myself. I figured I would eventually figure it out.
Then I started college. I still had no idea. Now, I had even more pressure to pick something. Some people told me if I didn't pick something, I would never do anything with my life.
*Ahem* Screw those people.
I sat down with myself after realizing how miserable this whole thing was making me. And I asked myself the most important question that exists.
"What do I want out of life?
Or, really, at the time, I asked, "What do I want out of the next five years?" I wrote the list down and I started going towards my goals. I have since lost that list, but it contained things like getting a new job (at the time, I worked McDonalds), taking 'fun' classes at college, and taking a trip up to the UP.
It gave my life new focus. I didn't care what I became, only what steps I was taking to do the things that WERE important to me.
So, yeah, I kinda love the list. It can be short term goals or a kind of bucket list, but they should be attainable and something you can work for.
So, when should you make a list? I am making one because a lot has changed in my life and what I want has changed. It's good for when you aren't really sure what you want to do with your life. It's good to get your thoughts and values all together. It's good to do every so often, just to figure out if you still want the same things.
So, without further ado, here is my list.
Okay, so ignore my awful handwriting. But yeah, this is my list. It's everything I want in the world. Currently... at this time. I'm a bit finicky.
So, time for a breakdown:
1. Disney College Program: This one is about to come true. It's been on my last few lists. So, it's finally coming true. I still have to nail down the school stuff, fix my car, and save money for the trip down. It's been a loooooong time coming.
2. Get my Bachelors: So, anyone who grows up in the last few decades knows the importance of school after high school. Well, I want to go into book publishing eventually (when my wanderlust stops being so crazy intense) so getting my bachelors is a step in the right direction and a way to take the load of getting my schooling finished off of my shoulders.
3. Fall in Love: So, now some of you may think that this isn't really a goal you can work towards. Au contraire, I have been actively not looking for it for awhile now, but I feel as if I am in a place where it is a possibility again. So, baby steps until I actually find a guy worth my time.
4. Get fit and healthy: This has been something I have been working towards over the last year. I've been working out, eating better, and becoming more attuned to what my body needs to be it's happiest. I want to get better and to work harder to be a more perfect me.
5. Backpack Europe: Here is the one that makes my bones vibrate. I want this so bad, it's haunting me. I want to go and just be in Europe and see all there is to see, meet new people, and just exist in Europe. I've always loved being in new places and I'm so excited to make this my next big adventure that I will be working towards.
Well, that's my list. I'd love to hear anyone else's list or even a goal that someone has.
